Third Grade Projects

My third graders have been working so hard and doing so great with their projects! I wanted to share a few with you! The students have learned about fleur de lis, giraffes, and Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night. Their fleur de lis and giraffes are done with paint. However, their Starry Night projects are made from different colors of construction paper and oil pastels.

Fourth Grade projects

It is one week before Spring Break and the students are ready to be out! With 4th Grade, helping them prepare for the LEAP testing, we have been working on polygons and nutrition. How does this relate to Art, you ask? Well... I told my students if they gave me half of their time to do a mini-math lesson then I would let them work on an artsy shoebox to serve as a scene for their polygons. So, we did the lesson by making our own 3-D shapes and talking about faces, edges, and verticies. Then I let them work on their shoeboxes. Some of them have really creative minds and came up with some pretty awesome projects. I allowed them 3 weeks on this project.

Also, we talked about nutrition and their project was to work in teams of two to come up with a slogan and caption that would be beneficial for someone trying to be healthy. I introduced the topic one week and by the next week that they came to me, they were ready to put it all together. Like I said, I was pretty impressed with some of the posters they drew.

My Wild Things

My younger grades have completed their "Where the Wild Things Are" paintings. I have to say they are extremely cute! This has been by far the best lesson I have taught and I had a blast reading the book to them, drawing out their wild things, paint them and then letting them give me their best "wild thing roar". My students had fun as well. This was drawn and painted by one of my first graders.

My New Art Classroom

We have just started March and I have been teaching about 2 months. My art classroom is full of children who are excited about painting and drawing. We have accomplished so much with learning art techniques and  learning how to have fun and still staying within the rules of the classroom.
Kindergarten has learned about paint palletes and mixed our primary colors to make secondary colors. We have also just finished exploring New Orleans through pictures and painting Mardi Gras king cakes.

First grade has learned about Wassily Kandinsky and painted a 4-square "Concentrated Circles." We also read "The Little White Owl" and made a mixed media project of an owl.

Second Grade has worked on penguins and painting wintery snowy trees. My younger grades have learned the story of "Where the Wild Things Are" and started to create their own "wild thing."

Third Grade has painted snowmen and a giraffe and are currently working on Claude Monet's Water Lilies project.

Fourth Grade has done a mixed media winter landscape project, created their own line designs, and have just completed Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night mixed media project.

Fifth Grade has also completed their line design projects, painted a mountain landscape and is beginning to personalize their own Fleur de Lis.
